Now my WordPress instance seems to be behaving I thought I would post about the 2 power supplies I purchased at a carboot sale this morning.
A few months ago I was able to purchase a power supply tester from ‘new life’ a local charity shop that sells Amazon returns and overstocks.

You may have seen this kind of power supply tester on various YouTube channels. It is easy to use, simply connect the the cables from the power supply to the matching labelled connectors on the tester, you’ll see that below
Corsair
First up is a 650watt Corsair VS650 Power Supply.
Corsair’s website describes the power supply as ” a great choice if you’re building a home or office system with lower power demands, but you still demand the compatibility and reliability that CORSAIR is known for.” it is a 80 PLUS® White Certified PSU and is listed at £54.99GBP although it is out of stock – good thing I got mine for £8
I did have to remove some dust bunnies but it cleaned up nicely

So I wired up the VS650 to the tester and switched on the power supply

As the pictures above show. The power supply is very much a bargain, with all rails being at exactly the correct voltages. 12v 5v and 3.3v
The other power supply:
This one has no real branding , so I named it the NoName power supply it has a model number of ATX-P4 and is rated at 500w, and cost me £3, I was not able to locate this model, however the 650w version is available at $69.99 online. Not sure if that fact makes this a better deal than the Corsair.
Amusingly the tagline of the box reeds “Believe | Strictly Power, Continuous Power, No Noise, High Efficiency” Here’s what the power supply looks like, its just a bit heavier than a Pigeon feather, which I am sure is a sign of quality.

So Once again I wired up the power supply, and plugged it in (no switch on the power supply).

The results are most surprising this £3 “professional” power supply is OK(ish), being within ”spec”.
All in all I think I got 2 bargains here, certainly they have different use cases but both will be used at some point soon, what ever project they end up in I will try to remember to blog about it. I’m pretty sure someone will remind me to do so.
For now though, Thank you for reading.
