Meshing with OpenWRT

A quick follow up to my previous post So its almost 2130 hours and I have to get up early in the morning, that means its the ideal time to update 3 meshed OpenWRT routers to the latest version right? Oh, just me then? I used the “attended sysupgrade” package to update and keep my … Read more

IEEE 802.11s what a Mesh!

OpenWrt 24.10 was released on the 6th of February 2025, Great! I thought switching my Cudy WR3000S and 2x Cudy WR3000 routers to OpenWrt would be a great weekend project. For the most part it was. Flashing the firmware was easy enough, first you have to flash Cudy’s intermediate firmware and then flash the official … Read more

A change of theme

A real quick post to say, that I changed my WordPress theme today. It has changed from “blogs up” to “generate press”; it should look pretty similar so as not to impress. I have been using WordPress for quite a while now, it fits my needs but the drama makes it feel ow!. Looking other … Read more

Fake SSD’s (Again)

The last time I blogged about Fake SSD’s was here Yesterday, I revisited NewLife (a charity shop- see linked post above) They again had some SSD’s, again there were fake although still somewhat useful. For £7.00 I purchased 3. 1 that claimed to be m.2 and 2 that appeared to be 2.5″ drive caddies. In … Read more

Debian running Snac2 on Caddy

Greetings and salutations everybody! I am hopeful that the below is an accurate account of how I got my current Fediverse instance up and running These instructions assume you have a basic install of Debian without a webserver installed but with sudo, ssh access and ports 80 and 443 open with a domain or subdomain … Read more

A shiny new (fediverse) instance

Today I felt profoundly better than I had for the previous 10 days. Prior to this period of illness I ad managed to render my Pleroma instance null and void, FUBAR indeed. Rather than reinstall Pleroma and have to deal with setting up a database, I thought I would look at some of the other … Read more

ActivityPub and Caching

WP-Optimize – Clean, Compress, Cache UpdraftPlus – Backup/Restore WP-Optimise is said to work well with the ActivityPub plugin. UpdraftPlus is apparently good for backups, restores and migrations Do you use these or any other similar plugins, let me know your thoughts!

Older (static) Blog -Available again

So after quite a few months I have finally gotten round to making my previous blog content available again. You can find it at blog.x220.co.uk At some point in the future I will retire the x220.co.uk domain and merge the content on a page here at journalctl Now I have finally sorted this my next … Read more

Ooops!

I suppose it had to happen at some point. My Pleroma instance has suffered a seemingly unrecoverable PEBKAC issue. After far too much time trying to recover the instance (which I feel some actions may have made it worse not better) I have decided to draw a line under it and move on. I will … Read more

Disable NX/XD to install Windows 11 that requires NX/XD?

Reblog via jase

Years ago I used to enjoy installing different Linux Distros on difficult to install on hardware

Because, for the most part installing Linux has become pedestrian, I find that I now get the same sense of achievement from installing Windows 11 on older unsupported hardware

The motherboard for this lil’ PackardBell was particularly obtuse.

Hint, even with the usual install mitigations used by Rufus installer Windows 11 needs NX ….so disable it on the motherboard to install windows 11!?

A tale of 2 phones and a busy day.

Last night thanks to a piece of grit that had lodged itself in the USB C port, my phone died even after the grit was gone, it was not gonna charge easily, I had to hold the cable ‘just right’ Due to time constraints I decided a new phone was needed I chose the Pixel … Read more
